Worcester City Council funds free swimming extension for under 16’s

Following the announcement from the DCMS that the funding for free swimming will end on the 31st July 2010, Worcester City Council has committed to continue the funding for swimmers under the age of 16 until the end of August 2010.

Swimming photo"The funding for this initiative was always time limited, so we understand that given the serious situation our country is in that the Government has decided this has to come to an end,” says Francis Lankester, Cabinet Member for Safer & Stronger Communities.  “However, the good news is that the City Council has pledged funding for a further month, meaning that under 16s will still be able to enjoy free swimming over the summer holidays."

Leisure Connection has been praised by the City Council and local people alike for its implementation of the scheme, which has seen over 10,000 people register for free swimming at the Sansome Walk Swimming Pool following its introduction in March 2009.

“We hope that all our customers who have enjoyed free swimming will continue to visit our Pool and reap the benefits that come from regular swimming,” says Dan Steed of Leisure Connection.
