Zumba dance sessions hit city streets

If it’s a Latin inspired dance fitness craze you’re after then look no further!

The Worcester Alliance – the Local Strategic Partnership or LSP for the city of Worcester – has secured funding from The Community Leadership for Health Fund to help run the fitness classes for young people in 2 further areas in Worcester.

Piloted in St Peter’s in autumn 2009, Zumba offers a fun, healthy and positive activity for young people in and out of school hours.

Aimed at 11 to 16 year olds, the classes start on Saturday 6 February at venues in Warndon and Tolladine – as well as continuing to be held in St Peters.

Amanda Hughes, Partnership Co-ordinator for The Worcester Alliance said : “Warndon and Tolladine suffer from a lack of positive activities for young people so we are delighted that we can offer them an exercise/street dance class identified by its Latin rhythms  and party atmosphere.

“Engaging young people in exercise and dance can influence a healthy start to adult life and one that the Worcester Alliance and its partners thoroughly embrace.”

Hannah Bishop, Community Worker at Worcester City Council said : “Since we introduced Zumba fitness classes in St Peter’s we have seen interest in it grow not just locally but nationally too.  Its success in St Peter’s and the fact that further funding has been secured, now means that we can roll it out to other areas of the city.”

The classes cost just £1.00 per session and run from 12.30pm to 1.15pm at Warndon Community Centre and 1.45pm to 2.30pm at The Tolly Centre.

For further information and to book contact Hannah Bishop on 01905 722 306 or 07789 271 802 or Maria Karpasitis on 07903 437 676.
