City supports Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 - 22 February to 7 March

It's Fairtrade fortnight (22nd Feb - 7th Mar) which recognises the movement to improve the position of poor and marginalized producers in the developing world.

Worcester... a Fairtrade City!

Worcester is a Fairtrade City with over 60 businesses and community groups stocking Fairtrade products. Worcester City Council will be holding a Fairtrade Coffee morning on 4th March at the Guildhall, hosted by the Mayor, and Fairtrade posters by local primary school children are currently on display there. The Five Goals of a FairTrade Town

Most countries share Five core Goals for a Fairtrade Town. These goals are the foundation for a strong local and national campaign and help involve lots of different groups and organisations.

The core Five Goals are:

  1. Local council passes a resolution supporting Fairtrade, and agrees to serve Fairtrade products (for example, in meetings, offices and canteens).
  2. A range of Fairtrade products are available locally (targets vary from country to country)
  3. Schools, workplaces, places of worship and community organisations support Fairtrade and use Fairtrade products whenever possible
  4. Media coverage and events raise awareness and understanding of Fairtrade across the community.
  5. A Fairtrade steering group representing different sectors is formed to co-ordinate action around the goals and develop them over the years.
