Gheluvelt Riverside Walk - Gheluvelt Park        

First Walk of 2012 will be 13th Jan (10:30 - 12:00)

Meet at the Pump House Environment Centre every Friday. 

Enjoy a walk through the city's parks. Walks will vary each week averaging 4.5 miles and taking approx. 1 hr 30 mins we always start and finish at the Pump House. Everyone welcome!

If it's your first time on this walk please arrive 5 or 10 minutes early to sign in. Thanks!

Please wear sturdy footwear and outdoor clothes.

Refreshments available at the Pump House.

 Trotshill Community Orchard Project - Volunteer Day

Saturday 4th February 2012 10:00 to 13:00

Help the Wildlife Rangers and Transition Worcester Orchard Workers get to grips with what we hope will become a Community Orchard, valued by local residents for its wildlife as well as its fruit!

Tasks to be confirmed, but could include further clearance of the Orchard, fencing and mapping trees. Tools are provided, no experience necessary.

Meet at the entrance on Trotshill Lane East, Worcester. Parking very limited, please car share or use public transport!

Hedgelaying Training Day - New Plantation

Thursday 9th February 10:00 to 15:00

Get stuck in to some traditional hedgelaying alongside Plantation Drive in Warndon Villages.

A section of this hedge is managed each year, to maintain it's wildlife value. Tools are provided, and no experience is necessary, so its a great chance to learn this traditional skill!

Super Seed Swap - St. Andrew's Gardens

Saturday 18th February 12:00 to 15:00

Transition Worcester are holding a Seed Swap for all those of you who are keen to get growing your own food!

  • Seed Swap: bring your left over vegetable, fruit and salad seeds and swap them for a new variety, or something completely different!
  • Veg growing advice: pick our brains to help you get started growing your own, whether you've got an allotment or a window box
  •  Activities for children

West Mercia's Tag Rugby Festival - Brickfields Park

Thursday 29th March 9:30am to 2:30pm

Years 5 and 6 from Worcester schools compete in a tag rugby tournament to secure a place at the divisional final held at Worcester Warriors.

Location: KGV Brickfields Park, Ash Avenue, Worcester, WR4 9TP

Dawn Chorus Morning - Gheluvelt Park

Sunday 6th May 5:00am to 7:30am (exact time may vary slightly nearer the time)

Join in with this year's International Dawn Chorus Day hosted for the first time in Gheluvelt Park. Join an expert RSPB volunteer and the Park Warden Team on a stroll around the park identifying birds by their chorus. Enjoy croissants and tea in the Sons of Rest afterwards.

Please bring your own binoculars!

Elderflower Cordial Walk - Cherry Orchard LNR to Cripplegate Park

PROVISIONAL DETAILS: Saturday 2nd June 10:00 to 13:00

An event in partnership with Transition Worcester

Join the Wildlife Rangers and Park Wardens on Saturday 2nd June for an elderflower forage, followed by some elderflower cordial making and tasting. The forage will start at Cherry Orchard Local Nature Reserve, Waverley Street at 10am. We will then walk along the River to Cripplegate Park, collecting elderflowers on route. When we arrive at the park, Transition Worcester’s Food Group will be on hand to help us prepare the elderflower cordial and taste some we prepared earlier! You should be able to take a small bottle of pre-prepared cordial home with you.

Notes: This is a one-way led walk! People are welcome to walk with their bikes.

Worcester City Flower Show - Gheluvelt Park

Saturday 18th August

The 2012 City Flower Show is staying in Gheluvelt Park which has been enhanced and redeveloped with Heritage Lottery funding.

This year we hope to have again the prestigious societies of The National Orchid Society, Fuschia, Hosta and Cactus Societies; The Worcester and District Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society; The South Worcestershire Bonsai Society and The National Beekeeping Society. We are planning to have the old favourites, the Gardeners Question Time Team and Floral Art demonstrations. There will be a market street and lots of kids activities too.

Start2Push - New Mum's buggy fitness class - Gheluvelt Park

 Every Monday 10:30am. Meet by the children's play area.

Use your buggy to get you back to health and fitness after the birth of your baby. The class is an hour long mix of resistance and cadiovascular exercise designed to work the areas of the body affected by pregnancy. There's no need to worry about childcare as baby comes to. The babies are kept moving as much as possible so they don't get bored, but the class is very relaxed and it doesn't matter if they cry. Give it a go - you have nothing to lose apart from the baby weight!

Cost: Initial £10 registration fee to cover insurance costs then £4 per session pay as you go.
