Worcester PE & School Sport Network
The Worcester PE & School Sport Network is a partnership of Worcester City's key Sport and PE development organisations who are working together to support and champion PE and School Sport across all Worcester City schools.
The Worcester PE and School Sport Network was established in September 2013 at the start of the 2013-2014 academic year. The network was formed by: Worcester City Council, The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, The University of Worcester and the Droitwich and Worcester School Sport Partnership (via the School Games Organiser) to support primary schools in utilising their PE and Sports Premium funding. The WPSSN now works with all primary, secondary and specialist schools to; increase participation in sport and further continued professional development to support schools in enhancing the physical education on offer.
The four key aims of the network are to:
- Support schools through bespoke CPD, encouraging high quality curricular PE to improve overall attainment and achievement.
- Support the development of high quality extra-curricular school-sport delivery to increase participation in school sport, promoting quality standards when using external deliverers.
- Develop sustainable sporting pathways, enhancing school club links which provide progressive opportunities for young people in high quality sport.
- Increase participation in physical activity to encourage active, healthier pupils who are more engaged across the whole curriculum.
The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, along with Worcester City Council and the Worcester PE and School Sport Network, have produced a Guide To PE & Sport Premium Funding In Worcester City. This guide has been produced for all Worcester city primary schools to provide advice and support enabling them to identify the most effective ways of spending their PE & Sport Premium funding, maximising the impact on enhancing the quality of PE & Sport in their school.
Curricular and Extra Curricular Activity Programmes
Throughout the full academic year the WPSSN are looking to provide a wide range of curricular and extra curricular activity programmes catered to each schools' need for all children aged 5-16 years old. All of our programmes comply with Ofsted guidelines as part of the PE and Sport Premium funding and all deliverers operate with the Minimum Standards for Active Coaches to assure quality within all programmes.
We are actively seeking schools' views on which sport-specific programmes you would like to plan across each term throughout the year. 10-week programmes have been designed to ensure progression in each activity; however shorter programmes can be planned. The cost of the 10-week programme depends on; the sport chosen, the coach's qualification level and the duration of the sessions. On average a 10-week programme can vary from £240 to £440.
We encourage schools to book early, planning the full academic year in advance to enable us to work with a greater range of sporting providers. More than one programme of activity can be pre-planned within each term in more than one activity of your choice for the term dates below:
- Autumn Term 2015 – 7 September - 18 December
- Spring Term 2016 - 4 January - 24 March
- Summer Term 2016 - 11 April - 22 July
Recommended Activities: Athletics, Cricket, Basketball, Dance, Disability Sports, Football, Exercise to Music, Gymnastics, Mixed Martial Arts, Netball, Multi-Skills, Outdoor Adventure Tri-Golf, Tag Rugby, Swimming and Tennis.
These are recommended activities we have delivered in schools before. Activity availability is dependant on external coach providers. Sessions and activities are based on a first come, first served basis, so please express your interest now to avoid disappointment. We require a minimum of one month to plan each programme.
A purchase order will need to be raised to ensure termly payments can be agreed in advance of each programme through invoice or BACS. All payments must be made to: Worcester City Council, PO Box 605, Worcester WR1 3WU. No cash payments can be accepted.
