Sport, Art and Play Development
Worcester City Council's Sport, Art and Play Development Team aims to reduce health inequalities whilst increasing community cohesion, encouraging positive lifestyles through sport, art and play. We want to do this within Worcester by developing a range of high quality, value for money sport, art and play opportunities.
From 1 December 2015, this service is managed by Freedom Leisure who are now responsible for developing sports, arts and play within the city. This service is responsible for attracting considerable income generation into the City to support and develop service delivery.

Why get involved?
Sport, Arts & Play can improve the lives of individuals, raise self esteem, improve confidence levels and provide enjoyment to individuals. Sport, Art & Play can also have a much larger part to play in; building safer & stronger communities, strengthening the economy, developing the skills of local people and meeting the needs of children as well as providing a wide range of health benefits. Regular participation in sport, arts and play can reduce the likelihood of ill health, reducing mortality risk, as well as playing a significant part in helping to tackle obesity.
We work with all ages of people, local community groups and settings, leisure centres, sports clubs, National Governing Bodies of Sport, Schools, Colleges, The University of Worcester, local charities and more.
Recognition of the need to invest in preventative health is a growing priority in government strategies and spending. Regular participation in sport, arts and play can reduce the likelihood of ill health, reducing mortality risk, as well as playing a significant part in helping to tackle obesity.
