Visitors to Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum are being greeted by a brand new exhibition A Welcome View which presents a selection of wonderful views of Worcestershire, missed by many during lockdown.
A Welcome View is a series of wonderful views from around Worcestershire which celebrate both the wealth and diversity of Worcester's Fine Art collection and the beauty and tranquillity of the county. Beautiful scenery and iconic landmarks give visitors the opportunity to lose themselves and reflect on the wonderful views they may have been missing. The exhibition includes favourites such as 'On the Teme at Worcester' by Worcester's most famous artist Benjamin Williams Leader, and views of the Malvern Hills by H. H. Lines, displayed alongside treasures from the natural history collection such as beautiful moths and butterflies.
Visitors can also enjoy A Rainbow of Art. Inspired by the wonderful 'rainbows of hope' people were creating during lockdown, staff at the Art Gallery decided to contribute their own rainbow-themed tribute to NHS heroes and key workers. Every week during lockdown an image of an artwork from Worcester's art collection was shared on the Art Gallery's social media pages, each representing a different colour of the rainbow. These works have been gathered together to be displayed in the Art Gallery & Museum as a fitting tribute.
The Art Gallery & Museum has recently re-opened to visitors following closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Government and public health guidance has been followed to ensure all visitors feel safe during their visit, including measures such as one-way systems, contactless payments and hand sanitiser stations. As a result the Art Gallery & Museum has been awarded Visit Britain's 'Good to Go' industry standard.
Curator Claire Cheshire says "It is a pleasure to be able to display our full Rainbow of Art now that we're open again. We feel it is important to say thank you to our NHS & key workers across Worcester and Worcestershire. We hope visitors enjoy both of these exhibitions and enjoy coming back to visit the Art Gallery and Museum."
Families can take away activity bags inspired by the exhibitions with crafts and fun activities to do at home.
A brand new Museum Shop has also opened in the foyer of the Art Gallery & Museum, with cards and gifts taking inspiration from artworks in the collections.
