Worcester City Council has welcomed the Government announcement that Warndon West will receive £20 million for investment over the next 10 years.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed last week that Warndon is one of 25 “trailblazer neighbourhoods” nationally which be prioritised to receive funding and support.
The Government programme has been designed to deliver long-term investment in areas it has highlighted as having high deprivation and low social infrastructure.
More details will be announced by the Government shortly to explain how the vision and delivery for Warndon should be developed.
Community engagement and partnership working is expected to be at the heart of this funding programme.
Welcoming the announcement, Worcester City Council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Jabba Riaz said: “We are delighted that the Government has recognised that Warndon West should benefit from a rapid injection of investment in order to provide better outcomes for the people who live there.
“We know that we have some significant economic challenges in this neighbourhood in Worcester, but we also have some strong commitments from local communities and organisations who will want to work collaboratively with the City Council to ensure this funding flows to those who really need it.
“Worcester City Council has shown it can deliver transformational projects using Government investment and we will build on our successful track record across the city in designing a better future for Warndon West.”
