City councillors have approved changes to some polling station locations in Worcester.

This follows a review into the current polling locations used for elections in Worcester and the facilities available inside them.

These changes will be implemented for all future elections - including next year’s Worcestershire County Council elections.

As part of the agreed changes, the polling station at the Goodrest Tavern will be moved to a marquee located on the Co-op Food car park in Barker Street. This is in the City Council’s Arboretum ward and the County Council’s St Stephen division.

The Lincoln Green polling station in Nunnery will also move to a new location at Ronkswood Hub.

Meanwhile, an additional polling station will be set up at 214 Worcestershire Battery Reserve headquarters in Pheasant Street to accommodate voters living in the Lowesmoor Area, within the Rainbow Hill ward and the Fort Royal division.

The polling station at the Horizon Community Centre will also continue to be used.

In the Cathedral ward and Riverside division, the previous polling station in the Waverley Street car park will move to Henry Sandon Hall at the Royal Porcelain Works.

The City Council’s Policy and Resource Committee approved the changes at their meeting on Tuesday (19 November).

Councillor Lynn Denham, Worcester City Council Leader and Chair of the Policy and Resource Committee, said: “This work is important as it ensures that voters have access to a polling station in their local place.

“Following each election we listen to feedback, make tweaks to voting arrangements and resolve any problems which might deter people from voting at their designated polling station.

“We don’t just wait for the mandatory five-year review and are constantly reviewing our polling stations and making any improvements that are necessary.

“Thank you to everybody who gave us feedback on the location of polling stations and their experience of voting in Worcester this year.”
