Worcester people who vote in elections by post are being urged to make sure they renew their application as soon as possible.

And to make it as easy as possible, the Guildhall is hosting drop-in sessions on Monday and Tuesday next week (12 and 13 January), from 10am to 3pm, to help people renew their postal votes on the spot.

New rules mean that a new application to vote by post now has to be made every three years. Anyone who applied before the new law came into force will see their postal vote expire on 31 January 2026.

The quickest way to apply for a new postal vote is online.

But anyone who wants help with making their application can get one-to-one support from Worcester City Council’s elections team at one of the drop-in sessions on 12 and 13 January.

Sian Stroud, Worcester Returning Officer, said: “People are used to having a postal vote for life once they’ve applied, but now that’s all changed and it’s vital that people re-apply by the deadline of 31 January.

“We don’t want people to miss out on making their voice heard when it comes to choosing their councillor or MP, so I want to encourage anyone who wants to carry on voting by post to act now.

“Head to www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote to make an application online – it only takes a few minutes – or pop into the Guildhall on Monday 12 January or Tuesday 13 January from 10am to 3pm, and our elections team will be happy to help you in person.”

If anyone can’t make it on those two days, they can also ask for help from the City Council’s Customer Services team based in the Guildhall, Monday to Friday.
