A new Mayor of Worcester has been appointed, who will represent the city at civic events for the next 12 months.
Councillor Dr Matt Lamb has taken over the chain of office after being voted in at last night’s (Tuesday 13 May) Annual Council meeting.
He takes over from Cllr Mel Allcott following her year in the role.
Cllr Tor Pingree has been elected as Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Dr Lamb’s chosen charity for his mayoral year is Acorns Children’s Hospice and his theme for the year is ‘learning’.
The new Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Dr Lamb said: “I’m deeply honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility and I will serve the city, and all of its people, with commitment, dedication and the upmost respect.
“I look forward to representing Worcester with the pride it so richly deserves.
“I’ve lived in Worcester for over 24 years and I’m proud to call it my home.
“Although I’ve been fortunate to travel widely, I can truly say there is nowhere quite like this city.
“Worcester is a place of remarkable character, combining deep history with a vibrant, forward-thinking spirit.
“From the beauty of the River Severn and the grandeur of our Cathedral to the strength of our local businesses and the warmth of our people.
“Worcester is a city that continues to inspire pride in those who live and work here.”
The Mayoress for the year will be Cllr Dr Zoe Cookson and the Mayor’s Consort is Cllr Pat Agar.
The Council Leader will continue to be Lynn Denham (Labour) and her Deputy Leader is Jabba Riaz (Labour).
