New Mayor for Worcester is appointed

A new Mayor of Worcester has been appointed and is ready to represent the city at civic events for the next 12 months.

Councillor Tor Pingree has taken over the chain of office after being voted in at last night’s (Tuesday 12 May) Worcester City Annual Council meeting.

She takes over from Cllr Dr Matt Lamb following his year in the role.

Cllr Karen Holmes has been elected as Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Pingree’s chosen charity for her mayoral year is Onside Advocacy and her theme for the year is ‘community’.

The new Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Pingree, said: “It is an absolute honour to be able to represent the city that I have grown up in and lived my whole life. 

“I am very pleased to be the eighteenth female Mayor of Worcester and probably the youngest yet.

“The history and culture of the city means a great deal to me and I will do my best this year to support and promote it.” 

The Mayor’s Consort for the year will be her husband, Alaric Stephen.

The Council Leader will continue to be Lynn Denham (Labour) and her Deputy Leader is Jabba Riaz (Labour).
