A commemorative tree, which was planted to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, has been replaced in a Worcester park.
The tree, which was planted to mark the celebration in 2012, was removed as part of the Kepax Bridge construction.
Second World War and Battle of the River Plate veteran, Jim London, planted the original tree 13 years ago with then Mayor of Worcester, Roger Berry.
To honour the significance of the original planting, a replacement Ulmus Columella Rootball tree has now been planted in Gheluvelt Park.
Although Mr London has sadly passed away since the initial planting, his memory was warmly honoured at the replanting ceremony by his son, Graham London, who brought a cardboard cutout of his late father to represent him.
The Claines branch of the Royal British Legion were represented by David Waldron (Chairman), Richard Jerrold (Branch President) and Howard Jones (Standard Bearer).
Meanwhile, Area 8 Royal Naval Association were represented at the planting by Nigel Trigg (President).
Councillor Mel Allcott attended the tree planting as one of her final appointments during her year as Mayor of Worcester.
She said: “It was a privilege to plant this commemorative tree and pay homage to Jim London with friends, relatives and veterans."
