Worcester food businesses secure new ‘Triple 5’ status

Worcester businesses that consistently maintain high food standards are being recognised as part of a new scheme launched for cafes, restaurants and take-aways that consistently show the highest hygiene levels.

The Triple 5 scheme celebrates eateries that gain the top level 5 Food Hygiene Rating and maintain it for at least three inspections – a cycle which takes around six years to complete.

Restaurants, cafes, take-aways and catering vans that achieve Triple 5 status are set to receive a letter from Worcestershire Regulatory Services, who carry out food hygiene inspections for Worcester City Council, and will be encouraged to display it to their customers. If a business fails to maintain a 5 rating in future inspections, they will lose their Triple 5 status.

Twenty-five businesses across Worcester have been awarded the new Triple 5 status.

The National Food Hygiene Rating scheme allows customers to choose with confidence where they eat out or grab food on the go. It rates food businesses from 0 to 5, with level 5 businesses deemed to be going above and beyond the required legal food safety standards.

Lloyd Griffiths, Worcester City Council's Director of Operations, Homes and Communities, said: "The new Triple 5 scheme is a fantastic way to celebrate and recognise catering businesses that take their commitment to food safety standards seriously for the good of their customers. I'm delighted that 25 Worcester businesses have achieved Triple 5 status already and look forward to more securing this prestigious honour in the future."

Residents can find out the rating of a food business by visiting the Food Standards Agency website
