A Worcester play area can now be enjoyed all year round, and for many years to come, thanks to improvement works that have just been completed by the Council.
Worcester City Council has installed a brand-new safety surface at the Waverley Street play area.
The previous grass matting was close to wearing out because of heavy use by local children over many years, reflecting the popularity of the play area.
It has now been replaced with a robust rubber surface that not only offers long-lasting durability but also provides a cushioned layer to help reduce the impact of falls and improves safety for young users.
The £32,336 project has been funded through planning-related developer contributions.
Councillor Hannah Cooper, Vice-chair of Worcester City Council’s Place & Economic Development Committee, said: “This upgrade means Waverley Street play area can continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.
“Until now areas around some of the popular equipment was getting muddy when it rained, but with the new safety surfacing we have ensured that families can make full use of the play facilities in the wetter months.”
The improvements are part of the wider Worcester Play Plan, which is delivering enhanced play provision across the city.
As part of this programme, safety surfacing repairs have been carried out at 11 parks, including resurfacing works at Cripplegate Park and Gheluvelt Park.
