Worcester’s festive parking offer for Christmas shoppers

With the lockdown coming to an end, many of Worcester's shops are re-opening and the City Council is supporting them with a yuletide boost.

Shoppers heading into the centre to look for gifts and to soak up the festive atmosphere during late night opening each Thursday in December before Christmas can take advantage of free parking after 6pm in the council's car parks.

The deal applies to all council-run car parks from 6pm on December 3, 10, 17 and 24.

The council is also offering drivers the chance to pay for three hours and get a full day's parking on Sundays in December up to Christmas. This starts on Sunday December 6 and concludes on Sunday December 20.

Councillor Joy Squires, Chair of the council's Environment Committee, said: "This is going to be a Christmas season like no other and I'm pleased that the City Council is able to provide this support to Worcester's traders as many of them re-open their doors.

"This comes on top of grants we have provided to city businesses since the first lockdown began, which have been worth a total of more than £20 million.

"It will be exciting to see so many shops re-opening from Wednesday and it's important that we all do what we can to support our local economy. But I would also ask shoppers to plan their trips carefully and, if possible, go into town when fewer people are likely to be around so that it's easier for everyone to maintain social distancing."

All of Worcester City Council's car parks have retained the prestigious 'Park-Mark' award that is issued by the British Parking Association and the Association of Chief Police Officers. That means they are safe, well-lit and are well managed.
