Worcester City Council has received recognition for its work to improve inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.

The Council has received the INclusive Worcestershire Leader award for its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy.

The strategy includes positive policies around employees’ personal circumstances, including health conditions, family emergencies, being a Disability Confident employer, and demonstrating a long-term commitment to diversity in the workforce.

Councillor Lynn Denham, Leader of Worcester City Council, received the award alongside Councillor Robyn Norfolk, the Council’s EDI Champion.

Councillor Denham said: “The Council takes a leading role in increasing equality and inclusion in the city.

“We also understand and value the contribution that different perspectives bring to the Council’s work.

“Council staff have done a great job of creating a safe and inclusive working environment for everyone, which reflects the communities we serve.

“At the awards ceremony we were able to meet like-minded employers also making a difference to Worcester people.”

INclusive Worcestershire is an initiative led by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Worcestershire County Council.

The City Council were presented with their award at the first ever INclusive Worcestershire Forum, held recently.

The Forum provides an opportunity for businesses and service providers across the County to come together and share best practice, pool training opportunities and work with more people from diverse backgrounds, including schools, to get the best outcomes for people at work and to encourage a strong local economy.
