Worcester residents are being invited to have their say on plans to improve three city play areas.
Worcester City Council has secured £331,000 in funding, through planning related developer contributions, to invest in the play areas at Horizon Hub, Ronkswood Hub and Medway Road.
A four-week public consultation is now underway to gather views on how the funding should be used, with the aim of completing the improvements in time for summer.
Horizon Hub in Midland Road is a popular family destination and saw its multi-use games area refurbished in summer 2024. The new plans include extending the existing play area and making use of the mature sycamore tree within the space to create new natural play features. The current toddler play equipment, which is nearing the end of its lifespan, is also due to be replaced. The designs will include a new access point to the playground from Stanley Road.
At the Medway Road play area, Worcester City Council’s Play Plan — a five-year strategy to improve play provision across the city — identified a shortage of facilities for older children. The new plans will aim to address this shortage and incorporate natural play opportunities.
Proposed improvements at the Ronkswood Hub play area include resurfacing the junior play area, replacing the surrounding log edging, installing natural play features in the toddler section, adding a roundabout, and installing a new secure fence.
The consultations on improvements to the three play areas are open until 6 February.

“It’s your chance to help shape the future of play provision at these three locations. Once feedback has been gathered, play equipment specialists will be invited to submit tenders to carry out the improvement work, based on the ideas put forward.
