New pieces of play equipment have been installed at a city park, as part of Worcester City Council’s ongoing plan to improve play facilities across the city.
A half-court basketball facility and nest swings are now ready for action at Cripplegate Park.
The new equipment forms part of the City Council’s 10-year Worcester Play Plan, which aims to upgrade existing play areas and address gaps in provision across Worcester.
Councillor Robyn Norfolk, Chair of Worcester City Council’s Place and Economic Development Committee, said:
“We’re delighted to continue investing in inclusive and engaging play equipment that all children can enjoy.
“It’s important that our play areas reflect the diverse needs of the community.
“The new basketball facility at Cripplegate Park is already a popular facility for children of all ages and adults as well.
“Meanwhile, the nest swing not only supports physical development but also fosters play and interaction between children.
“We remain committed to finding new ways to improve outdoor play spaces throughout Worcester.”
Another nest swing has also been installed at Medway Road play area in Nunnery, along with standard swings, suitable for toddlers and older children.
Nest swings are designed to be accessible for all children and support the development of balance, coordination, and spatial awareness.
Multiple children can use the swing at the same time, encouraging shared play and social interaction.
These latest play area developments follow the installation of a nest swing at the Green Hub in Dines Green last summer.
The Place and Economic Development Committee has also given support for a new pump track next to Perdiswell Leisure Centre, as part of ongoing work on the Worcester Play Plan.
The recently opened ‘Play on the Way’ facility between Cranham Drive and Chedworth Close in the Warndon area of the city is also part of the Play Plan.
Other projects recently completed as part of the plan include the installation of a pump track at Battenhall Park, a youth shelter and the refurbishment of the multi-use games area at Horizon Hub on Midland Road. Picture communication boards have also been installed at both Cripplegate and Gheluvelt parks.
