Worcester Show school winners receive awards

The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Tor Pingree, has congratulated the winners of this year’s Worcester Show Schools’ Competition and presented them with their awards.
The annual competition invites schools from across the city to showcase their allotments and gardens, highlighting how pupils are getting involved in growing, learning and caring for outdoor spaces.
Judges assessed entries based not only on the quality of the gardens and allotments, but also their environmental benefits, educational value and the enthusiasm shown by pupils throughout the project.
Northwick Manor Primary School was crowned this year’s winner and received a class trip to Pershore College, including a guided tour of its garden management facilities.
St Barnabas C of E Primary School was named runner-up, while North Worcester Primary Academy also received recognition for its entry. Both schools were awarded gift vouchers to spend on improvements to their gardens or outdoor learning spaces.
The competition was organised by volunteer Chris Thorp and all prizes were generously donated by competition sponsor Pershore College.
As part of the judging process, judges visited each school to see the gardens and allotments in use and learn more about the activities taking place there.
A photo display was then exhibited in the Competitions Marquee at this year’s Worcester Show.
The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Pingree, presented the awards.
She said: “Congratulations to all the schools that took part in this year’s Worcester Show Schools Competition.
“The standard of entries was extremely impressive and it was clear to see the pride, creativity and hard work that pupils and staff have put into their gardens and allotments.
“School gardens provide fantastic opportunities for children to learn about nature, sustainability and healthy living, while developing new skills and enjoying time outdoors.
“It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm shown by the pupils and to celebrate the achievements of all those involved. Well done to Northwick Manor Primary School on being named this year’s winner, and to every school that entered for their inspiring efforts.
