City Council praised following independent assessment

Worcester City Council has received praise from an independent review team, who looked at how the authority is run.
The City Council was assessed in April by a group of senior councillors and staff from other authorities across the country in a process known as the Local Government Association (LGA) Corporate Peer Challenge.
The group spent four days in Worcester, looked at how the City Council functions and the work it does.
As part of the assessment, the reviewers gathered feedback from a variety of partner organisations that work alongside the Council on a range of initiatives.
Following their visit, the peer team produced a detailed LGA report outlining their findings and offered constructive recommendations for future improvement.
Their report says that the City Council has a ‘huge amount to be proud of’ and they commented that the authority is ‘ambitious’ for Worcester.
They added that the Council is working on some ‘very impressive’ projects and highlighted its collaborative working on the Shrub Hill regeneration and The Arches project.

Councillor Lynn Denham, Leader of Worcester City Council said: “We’re delighted to receive such positive feedback from the LGA Corporate Peer Challenge group.
“Having councillors and senior figures from other councils examine how we operate gives us valuable insight into what we’re doing well and where we can improve.
“It’s especially encouraging that the team highlighted the dedication of our staff and the constructive working relationships between officers and councillors.
“The peer group also recognised the ‘caring and collaborative’ culture within the Council and praised the cross-party cooperation among councillors.
“Being a well-led council – both politically and managerially - enables us to deliver our ambitious programme of projects for Worcester people.
“It was also pleasing that stakeholders consistently spoke positively about the Council’s role as a trusted partner, and the peer review group commended the way all political parties work collaboratively to serve the city.
“I would like to thank council staff for making the Peer Review team so welcome and for their hard work in delivering excellent city council services every day.
“We look forward to building on this feedback and continuing to work together for Worcester’s future.
“I would invite you to see the report for yourself on the City Council website.”
