Extra funding for homelessness in Worcester is welcomed

The Leader of Worcester City Council has welcomed extra funding to help tackle homelessness and rough sleeping in the city.
The Government has awarded the City Council £1.18 million for this important work in the 2025-26 financial year – an increase of just over £200,000 on the previous year’s funding.
Councillor Lynn Denham said the money was especially welcome because the Council had recently adopted a new approach to supporting people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home.
She said: “I welcome this additional money from central Government.
“Reducing homelessness is an absolute priority for the City Council and this will support our work in adopting the Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) approach. That means working with partner organisations to ensure people do not fall down the gaps between services and systems.
“We are the first council in Worcestershire to join the MEAM initiative, which means taking account of the fact that people who are homeless or sleeping rough often have multiple problems, such as substance misuse, contact with the criminal justice system or poor mental health.
“As a Council we now have access to independent support to help us analyse and address the gaps in services provided to people who are experiencing multiple problems that have contributed to them sleeping on the streets or being at risk of losing their home.”
Under the MEAM approach, the City Council will work with an expanded range of partners to provide personalised programmes of support people who are at risk, with a focus on measuring improvements in their wellbeing and quality of life.
If you see someone sleeping rough please report them to StreetLink so that help can be given to them.
