Recycling & Waste

Report missed household bin or sack collection

We are sorry if we have inadvertently missed collecting your black bin, green bin, sacks or garden waste bin.

To avoid us missing your scheduled collection please place your wheelie bin or sacks (if your household is on an authorised sack collection) on the edge of your property, in an obvious place, so that our crews can find it easily.

We have introduced a new domestic bin information tag which will be attached to your bin should there be a problem. The tag will indicate why your bin has not been collected and provide information as to what to do next.

REPORT THAT MY BIN HAS NOT BEEN COLLECTED

IMPORTANT: We will not return for missed bins reported more than 5  calendar days after the scheduled collection. We aim to collect missed bins within three working days. Once you have reported your missed bin, please leave it at the edge of your property and we will collect it as soon as possible following the report being received.

The crews record all bins/sacks which haven't been placed out and those bin/sacks which have not been collected due to a problem. Your bin may not be collected if it is over full. Bins with open lids and protruding waste will not be collected because of the risk of falling items during the lifting process.

In communal bin stores, householders must use the bins and not leave sacks and other waste on the floor.

Please note that we do not collect garden waste, sacks of rubble or large items placed out with normal domestic refuse. The collection crews have discretion not to place an item of waste in the vehicle if they think it may damage the vehicle in the compaction process.

Bank holiday changes to refuse and cleansing services

There are several properties that are not able to have wheelie bins and will be serviced by a weekly or two-weekly sack collection service.

Black sacks are supplied to these households in rolls of 52. These are available upon request. Only one roll of black sacks can be requested per year. If more than 52 sacks are needed throughout the year, these will have to be purchased by the resident.

On the alternate week collections, properties can place out a maximum of FOUR black sacks per collection.

Green recycling sacks are supplied in rolls of 40. These are available upon request. Additional rolls can be requested throughout the year. There is no limit to the amount of recycling you can present.

Should you require replenishment of sacks please use our request form below

Guidance

For most single properties, two wheelie bins are provided; a 180-liter dark grey bin for general waste and a 240-liter green bin for recyclable waste. However, there are a number of options available if you meet the criteria.

  1. A 240-liter black bin can be available as an alternative to the standard 180-liter bin. If you feel you have any other reason for a larger black bin, please use our online contact form and an officer will be in contact

Householders can be supplied with an additional green bin should they need more recycling capacity.

Periodically, the Council may contact the householder to check the current circumstances at the property to determine whether the larger bin is being used for the purpose requested.

The Council reserves the right to remove additional capacity bins when presented for collection if the householder does not use the bin in accordance with the guidelines above and fails to notify the Council about any change in their circumstances.
  2. Smaller 140-litre bins are available for sole occupants or small families that do not generate much waste.
  3. Householders can be supplied with a larger green bin should they need more recycling capacity.

If you qualify for any of these options, you can apply for your bin to be switched to a different size.

Report refuse and recycling issues online

Report missed collections, request an assisted collection, new or replacement bins and sacks

Worcester City Council recognises that not all our residents are physically able to place their recycling and refuse at the boundary edge of their property (nearest the road) on their own, so we are pleased to offer assistance to those who need it.

An Assisted Collection application can be made to us where you will need to confirm the following:

  • I confirm I am physically unable to put my sacks and/or bin out and that there is no-one else in my household or close by who can assist me with my recycling and refuse collections.
  • I agree to allow Worcester City Council Staff access to my property in order to collect my recycling and refuse

If the householder's personal circumstances change then we must be notified in order to review the Assisted Collection
