Guildhall Venue Bookings

Looking for a fantastic city venue?

It's a little known fact that Worcester's beautiful Guildhall has received its fair share of Royal patronage over its long history; many will remember Queen Elizabeth II's visits in 2001 and 2012 but how about King George III on a sunny day in August 1788?

Along with Queen Charlotte and three of the princesses, he pronounced the Assembly Room - now a function/meeting room - on the top floor of The Guildhall - 'a handsome gallery' and drank a toast to 'prosperity to the city and the Corporation of Worcester'.  The portrait of the King - still hanging in the Assembly Room today - was presented by him to the city to commemorate his visit.

But it's not just royalty that can take advantage of one of the city's most beautiful buildings!  Available to hire for up to 200 guests, The Guildhall is a perfect venue for a host of occasions.

The City's Guildhall is a truly beautiful building which dates back to 1721.  It has a fascinating history – it was once the seat of justice throughout the city and even housed a prison – and today offers both visitors and residents a glimpse of Worcester's rich and varied heritage.

Guildhall tours

Did you know that tennis was played on the site of Worcester's Guildhall centuries before Andy Murray was born – or that the Guildhall still contains cells which used to be filled with prisoners awaiting sentence?

Discover History is now holding tours for members of the public, taking a 60 minute glance behind the Guildhall's grand facade. The tour provides an opportunity to travel back in time, to see how the Guildhall has changed from an earlier medieval building to the seat of local government for the 21st century. The Guildhall has a really compelling history, and we are keen to share its fascinating past with many more people. The building has entertained Royalty and Prime Ministers across the ages, and there have even been claims by staff working there that they have had ghostly encounters along its vast network of corridors.

Take the tour and discover for yourself!  The tours, which can be booked during the morning, afternoon or evening, are suitable for all ages and can be adapted for schools and clubs too. Scheduled tours will take place at 10:30am every second Tuesday of the month.

To book or find out more, email or call 07949 222137.  Tours cost £6 per person.
